So I saw this on Suzanne's thing, and I was like, hey, yea...

Comment and I'll give you a letter. In your journal, list your ten favourite songs that begin with that letter.

My letter is R:

I couldn't go with the obvious Ring of Fire - Johnny Cash, or Respect - Aretha Franklin, because that's just cowardly of me. Everyone loves those songs. If you don't, you're an idiot and I hope a rat pisses in your eye.

My 10 favorites, in no specific order
(because how could I possibly choose between Kenny Loggins and Lamb of God?)

Ruin - Lamb of God
Ready or Not - The Fugees
Runaway Train - Soul Asylum
Rockin in the Free World - Neil Young
Rainy Day Women #12 and 35 - Bob Dylan
Reach and Touch - American Head Charge
Restart - Ozma
Redneck Woman - Gretchen Wilson
Return to Pooh Corner - Kenny Loggins
Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden

Heart, we will forget him,
You and I, tonight!
You must forget the warmth he gave,
I will forget the light.

When you have done pray tell me,
Then I, my thoughts, will dim.
Haste! ‘lest while you’re lagging
I may remember him!

This is not the first time I've been told I have an asian quality to me. And so, I am going to embrace my non-asian orientallity, and as a start, I dyed my hair black. Jet black. As in what the 13 year old goth kids do to be different from everyone else, but end up looking terribly lame. Try doing it gracefully kids. It looks stellar on me. I certainly do not look goth though - I think it's the bright pink eyeshadow I'm prone to wearing. If anything, it makes me look some real-life anime character, with the choppiness and shortness and all. And I cooked the most incredible meal tonight - farfalle pasta with yellow summer squash, zucchini, mushrooms, onions, garlic-chicken, parmesan, olive oil, and a few spices. I feel so domestic.

I moved to Minneapolis Cedar-Riverside.
I got rid of my gas hog Ford Explorer.
So now I ride the light rail and the bus.
I chopped off my lovely blonde locks and dyed them red.
Red-red.
Like, "I'm gonna steal yo man" red.

That's really about all.

Except for that you should go listen to Woody Guthrie, Wilco, and Billy Bragg sing "Way over Yonder in the Minor Key". It's divine.

I lived in a place called Okfuskee
And I had a little girl in a holler tree
I said, little girl, it's plain to see
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

She said it's hard for me to see
How one little boy got so ugly
Yes my little girly that might be
But there ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Way over yonder in the minor key
Way over yonder in the minor key
There ain't nobody that can sing like me

We walked down by the Buckeye Creek
To see the frog eat the goggle-eye bee
To hear the west wind whistle to the east
There ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Oh my little girly will you let me see
Way over yonder where the wind blows free
Nobody can see in our holler tree

And there ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Way over yonder in the minor key
Way over yonder in the minor key
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Her mama cut a switch from a cherry tree
And laid it on the she and me
It stung lots worse than a hive of bees
But there ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Now I have walked a long long ways
And I still look back to my Tanglewood days
I've led lots of girls since then to stray
Saying ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Way over yonder in the minor key
Way over yonder in the minor key
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Ain't nobody that can sing like me

But me I'm a single cell on the serpents tongue
There's a muddy field where a garden was
And I'm glad you got away but I'm still stuck out here...

I'm having one of those really bad days.

The kind where you're happy and okay and then someone says one
little
tiny
word
and it triggers a million different unhappinesses in your head.
(Okay, one big one.)
But you don't say anything... you just get quiet and angry.
And everyone thinks it was their fault.
So you feel terrible, not only from what's crashing around in your head, but for making everyone else feel like they're to blame.

I would say I need some down time, except for that 6 years of taking down time when I thought it was needed hasn't helped.

And when I press the keys it all gets reversed
The sound of loneliness makes me happier

Home is so sad. It stays as it was left,
Shaped to the comfort of the last to go
As if to win them back. Instead, bereft
Of anyone to please, it withers so,
Having no heart to put aside the theft

And turn again to what it started as,
A joyous shot at how things ought to be,
Long fallen wide. You can see how it was:
Look at the pictures and the cutlery.
The music in the piano stool. That vase.
